From our Nerello grapes grown on the Island of Salina (Malfa and Porri), this ruby red is born. The persistent scent recalls the wild herbs typical of the Mediterranean scrub while the taste is characterized by nuances of marasca cherry and wild blackberry. Salina Rosso is an intense and perfectly balanced wine that can withstand a few years of aging. It goes very well with meat dishes and cheeses with a strong taste. Grapes Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello mascalese alc. 14%
Today, his children Marianna and Pietro lead the family business, founded in 1987 by Piero Colosi. A winemaking reality with roots well planted on the island of Salina (11.5 hectares of organic vineyards, between Capo Faro and Porri) and in the eastern area of Sicily (production site in Giammoro in the Messina area). The Nerello Mascalese grapes that give rise to the "Guardiano del Faro", the object of our tasting, come from a portion of the owned vineyards grown in Salina, which turns north towards the promontory of Capo Faro, giving a glimpse of Panarea and Stromboli. whose name, evidently, is inspired by these places. A red wine in this case, to only momentarily interrupt the company's consolidated tradition in the production of Malvasia, to underline once again all the particular characteristics of the Aeolian volcanic soil and to celebrate 35 years of viticulture on the island of Salina by the Colosi family. The aging in wood lasts one year and the 2020 version was produced in 3,500 bottles. Its aromas refer to small red fruits, Mediterranean scrub and spices, with a note of graphite to give it further character. In the mouth, the sip is full, sapid and soft, with a good rhythm, thanks to its flashes of acidic fragrance and its lively tannins. Basically intense finish with hints of spices.
A queen born from a poor fruit The color varies from bright orange to bright red depending on the prevalence of the “Sulfarina” or “Sanguigna” cultivar. The flavor of the prickly pear harmonizes with the aroma of the malts and is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Excellent as a meditation beer, with cheeses, fruit and dry desserts.
