Among the botanicals used for Ginarte, some stand out as herbs that were used as pigments for painters' and sculptors' colors during the Renaissance. These include calamint, once used to produce a green pigment; safflower, mignonette, and madder, which produced the yellow and red colors; and Montefeltro woad, famous for the blue used by Piero della Francesca. These are joined by plants and flowers whose qualities create a unique and enveloping flavor.
